How to Connect Reddit to ChatGPT with MediaFast

Bring MediaFast's Reddit marketing tools into ChatGPT as a custom connector. No API key, no code, just an OAuth sign-in with the Google account you already use.

The 5-Step Version

Open ChatGPT Settings, go to Connectors, and click Add custom connector. Paste https://api.mediafa.st/mcp as the server URL and click Add. Sign in with your Google account when the popup appears and click Approve. Open a new chat, turn the connector on for that conversation, and ask ChatGPT to find subreddits or draft a Reddit post.

  1. Open ChatGPT, click your profile picture, and go to Settings.
  2. Find the Connectors section and click Add custom connector (turn on Developer Mode first if you do not see it).
  3. Paste the server URL: https://api.mediafa.st/mcp
  4. Click Add, then sign in with Google when prompted and hit Approve to finish the OAuth handshake.
  5. Open a new chat, enable the MediaFast connector for that conversation, and ask ChatGPT to find subreddits or draft a post.

Looking for how to use ChatGPT itself to write Reddit posts? See ChatGPT for Reddit marketing for that. This page is about connecting MediaFast's actual Reddit tools into ChatGPT so it can find subreddits, draft posts, and check shadowbans against your own account, not just write generic text.

What Connecting Actually Does

ChatGPT can already write Reddit-shaped text if you ask it to. What it cannot do on its own is reach into MediaFast's actual Reddit marketing tools, since it has no way to know which subreddits fit your product today, what your account's shadowban status is, or what your MediaFast growth roadmap says. Connecting the MCP server closes that gap.

Once connected, ChatGPT can call five tools on your behalf, scoped to your own MediaFast account and plan. Here is what each one does when you ask for it in plain language.

find_subreddits

Ask ChatGPT to find subreddits that fit your product or audience, and it returns candidates worth posting or commenting in.

generate_reddit_post

Ask for a draft post for a specific subreddit and it comes back in a tone that fits the community instead of reading like an ad.

find_comment_opportunities

Ask where you could jump into existing threads and add real value, which is often a faster path to visibility than a new post.

check_shadowban

Ask whether a given Reddit account is shadowbanned before you invest more time posting from it.

get_growth_roadmap

Ask for a growth roadmap and get a plan for what to do next on Reddit based on your account and goals.

None of these post to Reddit for you. They find, draft, and check, you still review the output and post it yourself, the same way you would if you had opened the MediaFast dashboard directly.

Before You Start

A MediaFast account

You need an existing MediaFast account, since the connector signs in with the same Google account and acts on your MediaFast plan, not a separate login.

A ChatGPT plan that supports connectors

Custom connectors are available on ChatGPT plans that include Developer Mode and Connectors settings. If you do not see the option, check that your workspace or plan has it enabled.

A few minutes, no code

The whole process happens in settings screens. You are pasting one URL and clicking through a Google sign-in, not writing any configuration files.

Which ChatGPT Plans Support Connectors

Custom connectors are not on every ChatGPT tier. Before you go looking for Developer Mode, it helps to know whether your plan even has it.

PlanCustom ConnectorsWhat That Means
FreeNot availableChatGPT Free does not currently expose Developer Mode or custom connectors, so MediaFast cannot be added on this tier.
PlusSupportedThe personal Developer Mode toggle is available in Settings, which unlocks custom connectors on the web app.
ProSupportedSame personal Developer Mode toggle as Plus, on top of Pro's higher usage limits for the underlying model.
BusinessSupported, admin-gatedA workspace admin has to turn on Developer Mode for the organization first, under Workspace Settings, before members can add their own connectors.
Enterprise / EduSupported, admin-gatedSame admin-gated pattern as Business, managed from Permissions and Roles by a workspace owner.

If your account sits on ChatGPT Free, the connector still works fine on Claude Desktop, claude.ai, or Cursor in the meantime, see the Claude connection guide for that path.

Full Setup Walkthrough

This is the exact sequence, from opening Settings to your first working prompt. Every step happens on screen, nothing to install.

  1. 1

    Open ChatGPT Settings

Click your profile picture or workspace name in the bottom-left corner of ChatGPT and select Settings from the menu.

  2. 2

Turn on Developer Mode if Connectors is hidden

Custom MCP connectors live behind a Developer Mode toggle on some ChatGPT plans. If you go to Connectors and do not see an option to add a custom connector, look for a Developer Mode or Advanced setting nearby and turn it on first.

  3. 3

Go to Connectors and start a new one

Inside Settings, open the Connectors section and click Add custom connector, sometimes labeled Create connector or New connector depending on your ChatGPT version.

  4. 4

Name it and paste the MediaFast server URL

Give it a name you will recognize later, such as "MediaFast Reddit," then paste the exact server URL below into the URL field.

    https://api.mediafa.st/mcp
  5. 5

Click Add to start the connection

ChatGPT reaches out to the URL you pasted and discovers that it needs to authenticate you before it can list any tools. This kicks off the OAuth flow automatically, you do not configure anything else by hand.

  6. 6

Sign in with Google when the popup appears

A window opens asking you to sign in with the Google account tied to your MediaFast account. This is the same OAuth login you already use to reach MediaFast's dashboard, there is no separate password to create or API key to copy anywhere.

  7. 7

Click Approve to finish the handshake

After you sign in, MediaFast asks you to approve ChatGPT's request to act on your account through the connector. Click Approve and the popup closes, handing ChatGPT a scoped access token behind the scenes.

  8. 8

Confirm the connector shows as connected

Back in ChatGPT Settings, the MediaFast connector should now show a connected status instead of a prompt to authenticate. If it still asks you to sign in, repeat the Approve step once more.

  9. 9

Enable it inside a chat and ask for something real

Custom connectors in ChatGPT are enabled per conversation. Open a new chat, click the plus icon in the compose bar, turn the MediaFast connector on for that conversation, then ask a plain question such as "find subreddits for my product" or "draft a Reddit post for r/SaaS."

Finding Developer Mode (Two Paths)

"Turn on Developer Mode" is the one step in the walkthrough above that moves around depending on your account type. Here is exactly where to look.

Personal accounts: Settings > Security and login

Open ChatGPT Settings, go to Security and login, and switch on the Developer mode toggle. This is the fastest path on Plus and Pro plans and is where most people find it first.

Alternate path: Settings > Connectors > Advanced

If Security and login does not show a Developer mode option on your account, go to Connectors instead, open Advanced, and look for Developer Mode there. Either path lands you at the same setting.

Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces

On managed workspaces, an admin must first enable Developer Mode for the whole organization under Workspace Settings > Permissions and Roles before individual members can add MediaFast as a custom connector themselves.

OAuth vs API Key

There are two ways to authenticate the MediaFast connector, and for ChatGPT you almost always want the first one.

OAuth is the default for everyone

Add the connector URL, sign in with Google, click Approve. No key to generate, copy, or lose. This is the path built for ChatGPT's regular connector settings.

API keys exist for developer tools

A bearer API key from Dashboard > Settings > API keys is available for developer-facing clients such as Claude Code, where there is no browser to complete an OAuth redirect. Most ChatGPT users never need one.

Both act on your own plan

Whether you connect through OAuth or a bearer key, the connector only reaches the Reddit marketing tools your MediaFast plan already includes. It cannot exceed what you could already do from the dashboard.

Security and Scope

Connecting a third-party tool into an AI assistant reasonably raises the question of what it can actually see and do. Two facts are worth being explicit about.

The connector is scoped to your MediaFast account, not your whole Google account. Signing in with Google is how MediaFast confirms who you are, it is not handing ChatGPT broad access to your Gmail, Drive, or anything unrelated to MediaFast.

Nothing posts on your behalf. Every tool the connector exposes finds, drafts, or checks. Publishing a post or comment on Reddit is a manual step you take yourself after reviewing what ChatGPT returns, the connector cannot skip that review.

What to Ask ChatGPT After Connecting

Once the connector is enabled in a chat, these are the kinds of plain-language requests that trigger MediaFast's Reddit marketing tools.

"Find subreddits where people are already talking about problems my product solves."

"Draft a Reddit post introducing my SaaS to r/SaaS without sounding like an ad."

"Look through this subreddit for threads where I could genuinely add value and mention my product."

"Check this Reddit account for a shadowban before I post anything else from it."

"Give me a growth roadmap for getting my first traction on Reddit this month."

"Suggest three subreddits I have not tried yet that fit my niche."

What Comes Back When You Ask

Knowing which tool a prompt triggers, and roughly what shape the answer takes, makes it easier to ask ChatGPT the right way the first time.

You AskTool CalledWhat Comes Back
"Find subreddits for my SaaS that helps recruiters screen candidates"find_subredditsA short list of subreddit names, each with a one-line reason it fits, so you are not guessing which communities to try first.
"Draft a post for r/SaaS introducing my product"generate_reddit_postA title and body written in that subreddit's tone, ready to copy into Reddit once you have reviewed it.
"Find threads in r/startups where I could add value"find_comment_opportunitiesA handful of live threads with context on why a genuine reply from you would fit, not just a bare list of links.
"Check u/mystartup for a shadowban"check_shadowbanA clear verdict on shadowban status, so you know whether to keep posting from that account or fix it before you post again.
"Give me a growth roadmap for the next 30 days"get_growth_roadmapA sequenced plan tied to your product and current account standing, not a single generic tip.

Who This Is For

Solo founders

You are the whole marketing team. Instead of switching tabs to a dashboard, you stay inside the same ChatGPT window and ask for the next Reddit move.

Growth marketers

Running Reddit for more than one product gets messy. A connected ChatGPT can pull subreddit ideas, draft posts, and sanity-check accounts without rebuilding the same workflow each time.

Indie hackers shipping fast

When you are heads down building, the fastest path to a launch post is asking ChatGPT to draft one while you keep coding, then reviewing it yourself before you hit submit.

Anyone already living in ChatGPT

If ChatGPT is already your daily driver for research and writing, connecting Reddit marketing tools into it removes a context switch you were making anyway.

Across all of these, the pattern is the same. Tools like MediaFast turn the Reddit marketing steps you would otherwise do by hand into actions ChatGPT can call directly, so the setup is a settings change, not a development project.

ChatGPT vs Claude vs Cursor: Connecting the Same Server

MediaFast's Reddit MCP server follows the open MCP standard, so the same URL works across clients. What differs is where the setting lives and how authentication happens.

Because MediaFast hosts one server for all of them, switching assistants later does not mean rebuilding anything, the same five tools and the same MediaFast account come along wherever you connect it.

Why MediaFast Over a Raw Reddit API Connector

Most Reddit MCP servers you find on GitHub are thin wrappers around Reddit's own API. They read posts and comments well, but they hand you raw data and leave the marketing judgment to you. MediaFast is built the other way around.

  • No Reddit developer app to register. Open-source Reddit MCP servers usually need you to create a Reddit API application yourself and manage its rate limits. MediaFast's connector signs in with Google, nothing to register on Reddit's side.

  • Marketing tools, not just read access. find_subreddits, generate_reddit_post, find_comment_opportunities, check_shadowban, and get_growth_roadmap answer "what should I do next," not just "show me this thread."

  • One server, every MCP client. The same https://api.mediafa.st/mcp URL works in ChatGPT, Claude Desktop, claude.ai, and Cursor, so switching assistants later does not mean rebuilding the connection.

  • Nothing posts without you. There is no auto-post tool by design. Every draft comes back for your review first, which matters on a platform where an obviously automated post gets called out fast.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Most connection problems trace back to one of these six causes. Each one takes seconds to fix once you know where to look.

SymptomLikely CauseFix
Connectors option is missing from SettingsYour ChatGPT plan or workspace does not have Developer Mode turned on yet.Look for a Developer Mode toggle in Settings and enable it. On some workspaces an admin needs to turn this on first.
Clicking Add does nothing or shows an errorThe server URL was mistyped, has an extra character, or is missing part of the path.Retype the URL exactly: https://api.mediafa.st/mcp. Do not copy it from a screenshot or an old note where a character could be cut off.

Approve screen shows the wrong Google accountYou are signed into a Google account in your browser that is different from the one tied to your MediaFast account.Switch Google accounts in the popup, or sign out of the wrong account first, before clicking Approve.
ChatGPT says the tool call failedYour MediaFast plan does not include the specific action you asked for, or the OAuth approval expired.Check your plan in the MediaFast dashboard, and if the connector shows disconnected, repeat the Approve step to refresh it.

Free vs Paid Through the Connector

The connector setup does not change based on your MediaFast plan, the same OAuth steps apply whether you are on a free trial or paid. What changes is what the tools return once ChatGPT calls them.

Free trial

A limited taste of subreddit discovery and post drafting, enough to see how the tools respond inside ChatGPT before committing.

Paid plan

Unlocks the full set of tools, subreddit discovery, post and comment drafting, shadowban checks, and the growth roadmap, without trial limits.

Quick Answers

Do I need an API key to connect ChatGPT to MediaFast?

No. The standard path is OAuth: paste the server URL, sign in with Google, click Approve. A bearer API key from Settings is only meant for developer clients like Claude Code that cannot open a browser for OAuth.

Does MediaFast post to Reddit automatically through ChatGPT?

No. The tools find subreddits, draft posts and comments, check shadowbans, and build a growth roadmap. There is no auto-post tool, you still copy the draft and post it yourself on Reddit.

Can I use the free trial through ChatGPT?

Yes. Connecting through ChatGPT does not change your MediaFast plan. A free trial gives you a limited taste of the tools, and a paid plan unlocks the full set through the same connector.

Do I have to enable the connector every time I open ChatGPT?

You enable it per conversation, not per session. Once you turn it on in a chat, it stays on for that chat, but a brand-new conversation needs the toggle switched on again.

Glossary

MCP

Model Context Protocol, an open standard that lets an AI assistant like ChatGPT call external tools through a standardized client-server interface, instead of every integration being custom-built.

Custom connector

The setting inside ChatGPT where you register an MCP server by URL, so the assistant can discover and call its tools during a conversation.

OAuth 2.1

The authentication standard MCP connectors use to let you approve access without sharing a raw password or key. You sign in once and approve a scoped token.

Bearer API key

A single token that acts like a password for developer tools. MediaFast supports one for advanced clients like Claude Code, but it is not the default path for ChatGPT.

Tool call

The moment inside a conversation where ChatGPT invokes one of MediaFast's five Reddit functions, such as finding subreddits, instead of just generating text.

Scope

The boundary on what a connected tool can access. MediaFast's connector is scoped to your own account and plan, it cannot see or affect anything beyond what you could already do in the dashboard.

Connecting Reddit to ChatGPT FAQ

Common questions about the MediaFast connector setup.

In ChatGPT, go to Settings, open Connectors, and click Add custom connector (turning on Developer Mode first if needed). Paste https://api.mediafa.st/mcp as the server URL and click Add. A window asks you to sign in with Google and Approve, and once that finishes the MediaFast connector is live. Enable it inside a chat and ask for something like "find subreddits for my product."

No. Writing Reddit posts with ChatGPT on its own means typing a prompt and getting generic text back with no knowledge of your MediaFast account. Connecting the MCP server is different: it gives ChatGPT access to MediaFast's actual Reddit marketing tools, subreddit discovery, post drafting, comment opportunity finding, shadowban checking, and a growth roadmap, scoped to your own plan.

No, not for the standard ChatGPT connector. The primary path is OAuth: paste the server URL, sign in with Google, and approve access. Bearer API keys exist as an advanced option for developer clients like Claude Code that cannot complete a browser-based OAuth flow.

No. MediaFast's Reddit MCP server exposes five tools: finding subreddits, drafting posts, finding comment opportunities, checking shadowbans, and generating a growth roadmap. None of them post to Reddit automatically. You review the draft and post it yourself.

The most common cause is forgetting to enable the connector for that specific conversation. ChatGPT connectors turn on per chat, not globally, so open the plus menu in the compose bar and switch the MediaFast connector on for the conversation you are in.

The connector itself does not change based on your plan, the same OAuth setup applies either way. What changes is what the underlying tools can do: a free trial gives a limited taste of subreddit discovery and post drafting, while a paid plan unlocks the full set of tools without those limits.

ChatGPT Free does not currently include Developer Mode or custom connectors. Plus and Pro have a personal Developer Mode toggle in Settings. Business, Enterprise, and Education workspaces support it too, but a workspace admin has to turn it on for the organization first.

Yes. MediaFast follows the open MCP standard, so the same server URL works in Cursor by adding it to a .cursor/mcp.json config file, in addition to ChatGPT and Claude. It is the same account and the same five tools either way.
